Humankind in Space

Call for Papers

The Space Engineering and Science Institute, The Institute for Scientific Research and the Los Alamos National Laboratory are hosting a 4 day conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico in mid-March 2007.  The theme “Humankind in Space: Competition or Collaboration” will draw together an international array of scientists, engineers, educators, managers, and entrepreneurs. This conference will feature topical discussions in areas of interest to the exploration and habitation of space, including alternative methods of access to space.  The second Biennial Space Elevator Workshop will be held in conjunction with the conference.  We invite you to present a paper on a topic of your interest. 

Conference topics to include:

  • Planetary exploration, bases, habitation, space station
  • Engineering and construction in space and on the Moon and Mars
  • Space access, space  transportation
  • Space elevator technologies and advanced concepts
  • Entrepreneurial ventures in space/for space
  • Space power, space resource development NEO’s
  • Space commerce, law, education

Special events/activities to include:

  • Keynote talks/planning sessions/panel discussions on above topics
  • Student Robotics Competition – an annual event held in odd numbered years at the Space Exploration Conferences and in even numbered years at ASCE Earth & Space Conferences.
  • Banquet and Awards

Abstracts must be in English, one page or less, and summarize a paper suitable for presentation at the Conference.  The nominal length of the final paper should be about 7-10 pages.  Abstracts will be evaluated as they are received and authors will be notified of acceptance.

  • e-mail,
  • phone number of the corresponding author, and
  • up to 10 keywords.

Deadlines

    Abstracts Due 7 December 2006*
    All acceptance notices will be sent 18 December 2006
    Drafts of the accepted paper due 18 January 2007*
    Peer Review and Comments Sent Back 1 February 2007
    Final Draft Due 22 February 2007

We expect a period of one month for corresponding with authors about their final drafts. Click here for a detailed list of topics for the conference, by all means non-inclusive.  Student Papers will also be accepted and published in the Proceedings. *You can also submit both the Abstract and First Draft Paper between 7 December 2006 and 18 January 2007.
